Selection criteria

British Dance: Edition 2008 will provide dance presenters with a variety of choices and encourage the regular and less frequent dance promoter to see work that is both challenging and accessible in relation to a variety of styles, scales and intended audiences.

The application process has now closed for artists interested in presenting work at British Dance: Edition 2008

The deadline for responses was Friday 20th April 2007 .

Work is to be of the highest quality and :

Companies must be based in Britain
Be available to tour in 2008 / 2009
Be a complete work for presentation, not an excerpt

Guiding principles for the artistic programme are:

To create an eclectic programme that represents the diversity of dance work being produced in Britain
To strike a balance between well known companies and those presenting for the first time
To present work that is challenging and provocative alongside work that is more accessible and easy to book or sell
To provide opportunities for artists/companies who may not as yet have had the chance to present at BDE
To identify work that is original, intellectual, new, quirky and pushing the boundaries of dance in Britain today

An open application process enables all British dance companies to apply to perform in BDE 2008.

BDE 2008 is managed by Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI) on behalf of the Association of National Dance Agencies.

The final choice of artists rests with Karen Gallagher, Director of MDI. These choices are in the first instance informed by recommendations from the directors of the National Dance Agencies and then by information collated from the open application process.

A steering group of three NDA directors, observed by officers of Liverpool Culture Company and Arts Council North West, the main financial stakeholders, supports and advises Karen Gallagher in all aspects of the event.
